Tropical weddings - Legal requirements
These will vary according to where you choose to to have your tropical wedding. However, all destinations require the following:
- Full birth certificates.
- Ten year British passports.
- If divorced - a Decree Absolute.
- In the case of a widow/widower a death certificate is required and any previous marriage certificates.
- If one of the parties has changed their name by deed poll, proof is required. This must be stamped and signed by a solicitor.
- If one of the parties is adopted, your adoption certificate is required.
- Please note that some destinations also require a minimum residency –usual only a few days.

Will the marriage be legally recognised in the UK?
The majority of tropical weddings will be recognised in the UK, however,
the Law Society advises that any person getting married abroad should contact their local British Embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.
