Blessed with one of the finest locations in Africa, combined with the creative talents of Liz McGrath, there is little wonder that The Marine Hotel quickly became a member of Relais & Chateaux when it opened in 1998. Originally built as a private home in 1902, its renovation and rebirth as a hotel was inspired by its graceful architecture and wonderful cliff top setting. Indeed, Hermanus ranks as one of the best places in the world for whale watching on land, the magnificent creatures arriving at the end of July and staying until late November. Also right on the doorstep is Walker Bay, with its cliff paths and outstanding coastal and mountain scenery. After a day sightseeing you can relax in the heated swimming pool or pamper yourself in the hotel's beauty spa.
