Pan Am Games 'could be first of many Brazil sports events' - 01 Aug 2007
There could be even more reasons to book a holiday in Brazil following the Pan American Games.
Organisers of the recent event have expressed a desire for more sporting competitions to be held in the country in the future.
Brazil's Sports Minister Orlando Silva told a news conference: "We are ready to look for other events and to go after an Olympic candidature."
The Federation of International Football Associations has suggested that the 2014 World Cup could be held in South America and Brazil is the only country bidding for the chance to stage the competition.
Mr Silva also expressed the country's intention to make a play for the chance to hold the 2016 Olympics.
During the Pan American Games, Fernanda Almeida, a resident of southern Brazil, commented: "Rio is a delightful city and the atmosphere here seems to be even more special because of the Games."
Fans of holidays in Brazil will no doubt echo Mr Almeida's sentiments and join the country's authorities in hoping for another chance to visit the tropical destination.
