Pan Am games underway in Brazil - 19 Jul 2007
The Pan American games in Rio de Janeiro are currently making holidays in Brazil more exciting than ever.
Set to run until the end of July, the event involves more than 5,000 athletes from 42 nations.
An opening ceremony earlier this month launched the sporting event with a spectacular fireworks display.
"Rio is a delightful city and the atmosphere here seems to be even more special because of the Games," said Fernanda Almeida, a resident of southern Brazil.
At the authoritative Marcana stadium, spectators can bask in more than two weeks of sporting glory.
Swimming, beach volleyball, rowing, baseball and water polo are all part of this world famous event, drawing sports fans from all over the world to the exciting destination.
As a country that is perfectly at home hosting high-profile events, holidays in Brazil are lively, surprising and fun.
The country recently made the news when its Christ the Redeemer statue was voted one of the seven new wonders of the world in an online poll.
