Sun, sea, sand, and surf. The Hawaiian Islands are among the most beautiful places on earth.
Hawaii, the 50th State of the America, is made up of eight volcanic islands located in the middle of the North Pacific. Seven of the eight islands are inhabited; Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kauai and the private island of Niihau, each island has its own charm and character.
The island of Hawaii, known as the Big Island to avoid confusion with the state name, is the largest. It is a land of contrasts where you can see eruptions and red-hot lava pools from the active volcano, yet the mountains are snow capped in winter. Oahu is more of a bustling, lively island, home to Honolulu the only big city in Hawaii, the famous Waikiki beach and the infamous Pearl Harbour. Maui has some fabulous hotels and the south coast is a wind-surfers’ paradise. Lanai is relatively undeveloped with just a few hotels, ideal for rest and relaxation. Kauai is a green paradise, nicknamed the ‘Garden island’ is has some stunning scenery including picturesque waterfalls, dramatic mountains and some beautiful beaches.
The beaches of Hawaii are stunning, glorious white sands (although a few have black volcanic sand which is equally as striking) and clear blue waters. Famous for surfing, board hire and tuition is readily available, plus there are many other water sports on offer. The varied landscape and history of the islands means that there is plenty to see and do in Hawaii, many people people split their holiday between the islands.
