Beautiful islands, superb beaches and top class hotels with US levels of service.
The US Virgin Islands are made up of 68 islands in total, although very few are inhabited. The three main islands are St Thomas, St John and St Croix and they are very different in character. The islands are very American, however influences and visual reminders of the centuries of Danish rule are still in evidence.
St Thomas is the most developed of the islands, popular with tourists and cruise ships and housing many hotels. The capital Charlotte Amalie is vibrant and colourful harbour town with duty free shopping and beautiful historic buildings. Inland the island boasts two mountains over 1500 ft high which give fabulous views, and provide some great walking and trekking, the coast is dotted with coves and bays and has over 40 stunning white sandy beaches.
Five miles east of St Thomas is St John, the smallest of the three islands at 16 square miles. The island is mountainous and almost two thirds of the land is given over to the Virgin Islands National Park, which was established in 1956, therefore there is less development and fewer hotels. Most of the population and activity is centred around Cruz Bay on the west of the island. St Croix is the largest but least developed island, it has a wonderfully diverse landscape ranging from lush tropical rain forest to desert vegetation, and excellent beaches.
The US Virgin Islands have excellent hotels and beaches and plenty of activities by day and by night, ideal for a comfortable Caribbean holiday.
