Turks and Caicos are made up of 40 islands, spread over 190 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean, and have been a British Crown Colony since 1962. Only eight of the islands are inhabited and nearly half of the population live on Providenciales, which is known as Provo. Situated at the end of the Bahamas chain, the islands are relatively undiscovered. The main attractions are the white sandy beaches which collectively cover 230 miles, the crystal clear waters and the diving - the islands are surrounded by one of the largest coral reefs in the world, 65 miles across and 200 miles long. Most of the hotels are on Providenciales which is 25 miles long and 3 miles wide. Grace Bay is the location of many of the hotel, a stunning beach stretching 12 miles along the north coast. The accommodation and facilities are of an excellent standard and the restaurants, bars and nightlife are plentiful and varied, often centred around the hotels.
