St Martin/St Maarten holiday information
An enchanting and unique Caribbean island that is half-French and half-Dutch.

St Martin / St Maarten has been shared amicably between Holland and France for over 300 years offering two distinct cultures within easy reach of each other, visitors can cross from one side to the other without noticing as there are no border controls. The French side, St Martin, is refined and elegant. The gorgeous white beaches are secluded, the hotels are sophisticated luxury resorts, and the restaurants offer some fabulous French cuisine. The capital Marigot has some great shops, cafés and bistros. The Dutch side, St Maarten, has a busy port and commercial district, it is more developed than the French side. There are a number of large hotels with casinos and the shopping is duty free. Both sides have good harbours and Marinas. The hotels we feature are on the French side where there are some stunning beaches. Grand Case on the northwest of the island is a long sandy beach with calm waters, ideal for swimming, it also has some great beach huts serving delicious food. Orient Bay Beach on the northeast of the island is a mile long cove protected by a reef, the beautiful blue water is perfect for swimming and home to an underwater marine reserve. Caye Verte, a small island just of the coast offers great snorkelling. On the west coast Baie Rouge is a picturesque strip of white sand, dotted with boulders offering privacy to sun bathers. All the hotels offer a wide selection of watersports and activites, and there are plenty of sights to visit around the island on both the French and Dutch side. St Martin is fairly heavily populated so there are few places to go get away from it all, it is really suited to those who are looking for an action packed holiday, shopping and fine dining. It is ideal twinned with a more relaxing, quieter island.
