Formerly a British colony home to pirates and bootleggers; Singapore is now one of the cleanest, most prosperous and urban cities in Asia. The past is not forgotten, however, and if the visitor is willing to scratch the surface one finds that it has a rich culture of street markets, temples and small shops selling everything from spices to carpets.

Beaches are also on offer if the hustle and bustle of the big city becomes too much. Stentosa, a small island just south of the main island, is easily accessible and offers some of the most photogenic beaches in Asia.
