The Sultanate of Oman occupies the eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula and is the most traditional country of the United Arab Emirates. From the rugged coasts, to the peak of Jebel Akhdar at 2980m, and the salt flats and deserts, Oman’s varied terrain dazzles and amazes the visitor. From the fortresses of Jadrin to the souks of Muttrah, Oman is a country of exotic mysticism.
Oman’s long standing trading links with India, Africa and the Orient give this country a vibrant fusion of cultures whilst retaining it’s own lifestyles and traditions. The capital of Muscat has souks specializing in gold and silverware, Bedouin rugs and antiques to tempt the bargain hunter. The city is encircled by hills and sits beside it’s own horseshoe bay and is the base for the Sultan’s palace.
Salalah is the base for exploring the country’s archeological sites including Al-Balid, whilst Mugshail to the west, has beautiful beaches with frankincense trees adding to the stunning scenery. In the north of the country lie the jagged mountains of Hajar with its remote walled towns and the dazzling beaches of the Batinah coast.
