A piece of France transported to the Caribbean, where the language and customs have adapted to the climate.
Martinique is beautiful and diverse. As a volcanic island it has a mixture of black and white sand beaches. The black volcanic sand can be found on the beaches on the north coast, the white sandy beaches in the south. The Caribbean Sea is to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the East, the interior of the island is mountainous and over a third of the land is forested.
The two main tourist areas are Point du Bout and Les Trois-Ilets where you will find good shops, restaurants and bars, a few nightclubs, a casino and marina. They are located on the south west of the island close to some of the islands most beautiful beaches. The capital, Fort-de-France is a large, cosmopolitan city that combines a Caribbean atmosphere with a hint of Parisian cafe society.
The island has an array of historic towns and sites to visit in addition to the many activities and watersports on offer which makes it a great destination for anyone who is interested in the fascinating history and culture of the Caribbean as well as the beaches.
