South Korea holiday information
South Korea is a mixture of bustling modern society and ancient Asian culture, where tourists are still met with curiosity and friendliness. South Korea is a paradise for the city shopper as well as fans of outdoor activities. You can shop till you drop or feel that you have earned your refreshment after a long days hike.

A trip to South Korea offers a breathtaking experience of bustling cities, beautiful hills and high mountains. In fact, South Korea is one of most mountainous countries in the world. Almost every thinkable outdoor activity is available. The republic of South Korea stretches approx. 500 km from north to south and a little more than 200 km east to west. It lies in the temperate zone and offers marked seasonal and geographical differences. The winter is long, dry and sometimes cold. The summer is short, hot and humid. The latter is particularly noticeable in the south of the peninsula and the island of Cheju, where most of the yearly rain falls within a short period. The capital Seoul is the obvious place for the shopper, where bargaining is part of the excitement in the markets. The urban areas are heavily populated, but you are never far from a park, most parks have one or more attractions to offer, either of cultural, natural or sporting interested. The parks are easily accessible by public transport. The country has a well-developed, reliable, train network. The train companies offer four different classes ranging from the cheaper, frequently stopping services, to the luxurious, fast services that only stop at major stations. You should always check if the service is calling at your destination, you should also to be prepared to make a quick exit from the train, as the stops are short in order to keep to the timetable. In the capital Seoul and the three major cities, the subway system is a swift way to get around. An alternative to the subway is the extensive bus service that offers good value and frequent departures. Here again awareness of your destination is of the essence. Different bus services depart from different stations. Luckily, the tourist information offices are amongst the best in the world and are only too happy to help out with maps and information. Their service is in English and free of charge. Koreans are known to be friendly and helpful. The native language is Korean, although South and North Korea speaks their own variant of Korean and English is widely spoken.
