So what do your kids get up to on holiday?

Diving for kids at Beaches resorts

For most parents a holiday offers the chance of a break from cold weather and work, but let's be honest, it can also offer a break from the children. As dearly loved as the little ones are, a well run, exciting kids club can be a welcomed facility for parents wanting a complete break, and is an essential part if most family holidays. Hoteliers in the Caribbean are constantly improving the facilities they offer for children so their mums and dads can happily leave the little darlings. But what do the children really get up to?

Sharon Davis, kids club coordinator at Jolly Beach in Antigua reflects; "My funniest moment was during a drama session with the kids after dinner, when I played a giant's wife. I had to find a hiding place for this little boy in the story so I ran back and forth trying to find somewhere. I fell down - and the kids laughed so much we had to stop for a bathroom break." Kids clubs can mean all the family really make the most of their time away, doing things together as well as with others their own ages and with their own interests. Juliette Sanford, kids' rep at Almond Beach Village in Barbados explains what's typically on offer for the children; "They can take part in waterskiing, snorkeling and banana boat rides. We go crab hunting and even do pool aerobics. There are specially designed pools just for children and a fully equipped playground. Kids also enjoy the evenings, when they can come to our disco nights, karaoke evenings and pyjama parties. My favourite activities are the ones where we teach the kids fun practical activities such as painting and tie-dying, jewelry-making, local cooking, calypso dancing and face painting. It's a great feeling when you see the enjoyment and enthusiasm they have taking part in making things and knowing that you are helping them to learn." Alicia Keyes, known as 'Tweety Bird' to the youngsters who holiday at Beaches Negril Resort and Spa, Jamaica, is a teens fun pal, and looks back at the fun the children have; "In the middle of the morning the sun is up, the sky is blue and it's a perfect time for beach volleyball or pool Olympics. However the kids also love the nights with the teen discos, Jacuzzi parties, toga parties and beach bonfires."

So why not take a total break on your next holiday, make use of the kids clubs, and you and the children will have a great holiday.
