Egypt, the Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year

Egypt, the Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year

The Oscars may not be given out until next month, but the results of the golf tourism industry associations (IAGTO) own version of the prestigious annual award ceremony are out, with Egypt winning the 'Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year' accolade for 2006.

However after receiving such recognition this undiscovered golfing paradise will not stay this way for long. With more than a dozen courses in Egypt already, new developments planned will see 17 open by the end of the year, with most around the Red Sea and Cairo.

The Egyptian State Tourist Office UK director Khaled Ramy said: "Egypt is building on new activity based tourism, of which golf is one." What better place to hit the fairways too, with the beautiful, sunny Egyptian weather providing perfect playing conditions to work on your swing, as well as your tan! There really is more to Egypt though than just its climate.

There is some incredible diving to be had on the Red Seas Coral Reefs, as well as the desert for four-wheel-drive, quad biking, or for the more adventurous among us, a camel-ride! Egypt is also a 'Twitchers' paradise, being on the migration route for thousands of birds each year it is a memorable destination for bird watchers. Whilst Egypt's clear skies will provide a great opportunity to see the partial eclipse of the sun that will be visible from northern Africa on March 29th. There truly is something for everyone in the land of the Pharaohs.
